Bon dia, Barcelona!

Welcome back from Spring break! The famous kid-friendly San Miguel Biergarten closes this weekend, there are babies being handed paintbrushes, and a full circus show set inside a prison just opened. Let's go.

This Weekend's Highlights
  • Last Call (Kids Welcome): A German beer festival with a kids menu inside the walls of Poble Espanyol. Yes, really. San Miguel Biergarten wraps its 17th edition this weekend. Free entry for Catalonia residents. Saturday is the move.

  • The Sant Jordi Warm-Up: With Sant Jordi two weeks away, La Puntual is staging a table puppet retelling of the legend of Saint George, the princess, and the dragon, for kids from age 3. It's in Catalan, but dragons don't need subtitles.

  • For Older Kids: Circus, physical theatre, live music, and special effects, all inside a prison run by artificial intelligence. PrisionIA opens at the beach this weekend, and is billed as suitable for all ages.

Have a frothy, colorful, slightly chaotic weekend!

PS: Sharp eyes may notice a few new things this week. Still rough around the edges, but we're getting there.

The Rabbit Hole

This one requires no planning: just walk through the door at Carrer del Paradís 10. It looks like any other entrance in the Gothic Quarter, but step inside and you'll find four 2,000-year-old Roman columns standing in a quiet medieval courtyard, completely free to visit. They're the remains of the Temple of Augustus, built when Barcelona was a Roman colony called Barcino, and most people stride straight past without ever knowing they're there. The columns are 9 meters tall and have been standing for two millennia. Let the kids lead the way in, and watch their faces when they realize what they're looking at.
